The only reading we had this week was part of an activity on how to read and evaluate an article. The article I read was about how contemporaries viewed Empress Wu, her legacy, and why she was viewed the way she was. It’s a pretty good article for a general audience who want information on Empress Wu. It isn’t biased in any obvious way and while there are issues with how the sources are laid out in the end and some in-text links being useless or leading to malware, it’s still solid.
From the activity, I learned that you should look at a combination of the content, the presentation, and the sources. Presentation isn’t as important as the others, but many people will immediately discredit an article if it doesn’t look professional enough. In terms of content, you need to see if it’s biased in any way and if it’s going into the subject with enough detail or with a point. Sources are important so you know the information has some credibility behind it and it isn’t just the writer making stuff up.
Next week I will figure out my show and tell project and put some effort into making it better than my first.
